What does being a Pagan involve?

Hi. I'm very curious about what it means/takes to be a Pagan.

Not sure any sort of organized spirituality is for me, but my sense is Paganism might be closest to me (maybe Buddhism too??).

I'd love to learn more...thanks.

Hi!

I am currently referring to myself as a fledgling pagan. I am in the middle of reading the Spiral Dance by Starhawk. I would recommend it to you. enjoy your search

Paganism means different things to different people. For me it means trying to live in harmony with nature, and celebrating the turning of the seasons. It means being respectful of all living things, and living with the intentions of harming none.

exactly what the pp's said, and much more. Spiral Dance by Starhawk is a really great book suggestion. I just wanted to say that I practice both Buddhism and Paganism. They can definately both work together. Good luck on your journey!

I would have to say that paganism also isn't really that much of an organized spirituality. Yes, there are small groups which "organize", but overall, it's pretty much an unorganized thing. There is a huge variety of beleifs, practices, and more.

I also agree that starhawk's the spiral dance is a great book. I also would recommend reading around the internet (with the awareness that there is a LOT of baloney out there as well), and take a look at what paganism looks like for different people. "The book of shadows" by phyllis currott is a great memoir, and one way one woman does paganism, but I'm not sure its the most common. (I think there are a lot more solitaries than people in covens or other organized groups).

To me, paganism is about seeing god in balance- masculine and feminine- in everything, especially the natural world around us. It means being in tune with nature and allowing my heart to guide me above all else.
