Ergo positioning question.

I have an Ergo Sport. The way it fits me, I have the waist buckle pulled as tight as it goes, pretty much. I also pull the shoulder buckles fairly tight. The small buckles on each side usually are on the sides of each breast, or slightly back a bit.

I'm just wondering where the Ergo normally should sit to be comfy. It's been starting to hurt me lately. Should the waist be riding on my hip bones, or up higher, like at the natural waist or ribcage? Do you wear the Ergo with relatively loose shoulder straps, thus putting the weight more on the hips?? I'm just confused because of the discomfort I've been having lately, and wondering if I am positioning wrong. I try to get DD's bum around or above my belly button, but that just doesn't seem to work in the Ergo.

Thoughts?

Where is it bothering you? That sometimes helps identify where the problem with the fit is.

The ERGO should sit right above your hips. The weight should be distributed across your hips. I find that most people prefer a more snug shoulder fit, but I think it depends on the person. I would try different adjustments, as well as adjusting the sternum clip, will help you find the best fit.

Mmm...well, I feel like I am trying to consciously keep my shoulders back...so I guess it's in my back where it bothers me. (I have a bad back already.) So I've tried to get the waist further up and loosen the shoulder straps to get more weight on my hips, but that doesn't seem to work, either. Maybe it's just weak/tired muscles?

...also, so does the "bellybutton or higher" rule apply to the Ergo, or just ring slings, wraps, etc?

Friends have told me to wear my ergo lower, way down on my hips, and say it feels very comfy for them. I prefer mine just lower than my natural waist, but not as low as my friends. I don't really think baby necessarily needs to be above the umbilicus in the ergo. I'd go for comfort, whereever that is...

Hmmm... this post gets me thinking. When I wore my ds in the ergo (on my back) I always had it tight and wore him high. He liked to look over my shoulder. It would be at my natural waist, almost my ribcage.

He is 4.5 yrs. I don't wear him anymore, lol. With my new baby, I am finding the ergo uncomfortable. I had looked at the website before I started using it again and noticed in the pics they wore them much lower. So I wore her like that, but I am not comfy. I guess we just need to experiment.
