We used it for a month or two, and Rain seemed to find it helpful, but then she got busy doing other stuff.

If you do a search in this forum you'll find other comments about it... I know it's been discussed.

My daughter started using it 2 weeks ago and it has changed our lives and her desire to do math. I think the assessments are not too thorough, e.g. my daughter was given problems that she already understood well. But after initially scoring 28% of math learned in the beginning, now she has only 28% left to learn before finishing 4th grade math. We had power struggles over math and we took a long break, but she was really into Aleks and I find her doing it when not even asked! The homeschool charter that we belong to has almost everyone using it and it is well liked. As parents, you can click on "report" and see what your child has learned and still has to learn. I and my daughter find the pie charts of learning to be really helpful. You can see what you need to do and see your learning.

I have heard that Teaching Textbooks, (I think that is the name) is similar.

My son has been doing it for a few weeks. He's enjoying it. I don't think it would be good for a child who really struggles with math - there's only one explanation for each type of problem, so if they don't understand that, you're out of luck. My son gets things really quickly and doesn't need to be beaten over the head with tons of practice problems, so it's great for him. He also likes that he has a menu of topics to select and can pick what he wants to work on. The down side of that is that he's done all he can do in three of his catagories, and now has only two left to choose from for awhile, and they're the topics he's been avoiding and now he's stuck with them.
