Incase you missed it, that's a 13.5% Cesarean rate! I know it's not perfect but man oh man it's better than any hospital I've ever heard of.

That's great. I think a combination of culture (women supporting women, beliefs that run counter to the idea of incisions) and this: "The hospital and doctors are federally insured against malpractice, in contrast to other hospitals, where private insurers have threatened to raise premiums or withdraw coverage if vaginal birth after Caesarean is allowed." are key.

That was such a well-done article. As a reporter myself, I feel completely safe in saying that most reporters don't "get" birth issues, but this one was great.

well the other thing is they do not make any more money for doing a c-section- and the hospital is truly a midwife staffed and mostly midwife run - yes they have the OBs there but the OBs they have are unique in that they do not "run the show" - here we even have midwives who are part of a federal program- but the back up docs are very restrictive on midwife practice and set very non-midwife friendly protocols and the epidural and c-section rate is average
