mama is away for a few nights to have a new baby??

DS has never spent a night away from me in all his 26 months. I have nursed him to sleep, and throughout the night ever since he was born. At this point in time he is mostly nightweaned but still wakes at 4am to nurse on and off until he's up for the day at 6am. his favourite words at the moment are 'mummy do it!' for pretty much everything and he has never accepted DH as doing bedtime duty, though he loves him to bits during the day.

I am due to have baby no 2 in October. I just can't get my head around what will happen then when I am away from home, probably in a rush, for 3 or 4 nights (which is standard here in France). What did y'all do? Did you transition your OC to another way of settling - with DH or granny or what? How did it go? Does it all have to be worked out in advance??

Help me! I'm worrying about this far more than I am the new baby.

He likely won't have much trouble. DS who was only nursing 1 time a day when DD was born, so wasn't night nursing anymore, but still liked his Mommy snuggles and slept with DH. Had no problem at all while we were in the hospital with DD and he was with his Grandparents. Once we were back home he went back to his normal schedule. Actually once we were home he was thrilled because he could nurse more then just once a day.

October is still almost 7 months away, 7 months is a huge time period for all you know he may not be nursing at night at all by then. There is a chance he might even wean before that, since some children do due to the change in your milk when pregnant. It is really too early to even worry about it. I would figure out what you are going to do in August or so, when the birth is much closer.
