wet, gurgly breathing in 10 month old?

My 10 mo has had a cold for about 10 days. The only symptoms he had were green runny nose, occasional cough, and loss of appetite (except for nursing). He had crusty discharge from the left ear the other morning, which explains why he was so cranky the night before. Other than that, he's happy & playing.

My only concern now is that while he is playing and crawling around, his breathing sounds so junky and (I may be hypersensitive to this) rapid? I don't know if he's just getting excited while he's playing or if it's truly "rapid breathing". Every now and then he growls, too, but that could just be him playing with his voice.

I wish he could just clear his throat. kwim?

For the record, he's still got green snot, but no more cough. He also spits up a few times a day.

Am I reading too much into this?

My DS is prone to junky gunky coughs and chest colds...they often last 14 plus days before they go.

The first time he had one I got scared and took him to the ped who told me he HAD to have abx....I gave them agaionst my better judgement. The next time I thought I'm going to handle this naturally (I really do not believe in abx except for life threatening circumstances) and not let my fear get the better of me. I consulted our ND, gave him a variety of natural supplements and he recovered fine...no abx. Although we are still trying to deal with the horrible fungal rash he got from the round of Abs I gave him over 3 months ago!

With all that being said, you should follow your instincts.
