Just ordered fermented cod liver oil for the first time...

and I was REALLY hoping you ladies could give me a thumbs up or down on this idea...
I got the chocolate gel in hopes thinking I could mix it with a bit of our organic chocolate syrup (think hershey syrup type stuff) and manage to con dd and dh into taking it...or maybe mix it into peanut butter AND chocolate syrup?? Whaddya people think???? I am less worried about dd then dh...isn't that sad? Seriously he is a grown up and should just suck it up. and sadly he is the one I need to get it into the worst! Is it impossible to get the stuff into capsules?
Thank you so sosososososososo much for you thoughts!

I haven't tried to hide fclo, but I've hidden truly nasty powdered supps in chocolate syrup (if you want to make your own, Alton Brown on foodnetwork.com has a great recipe, and it's easy to make) and it works quite well.

Seems to me, that as a grown-up, he should be the one to determine what he does and does not consume.

If you ordered the Blue Ice fclo, you can get capsules if your dh has a problem with the gel. I get the capsules that have a little orange oil in it and take it with orange juice in the morning. I don't notice any gross after-burps when I do it this way.

i've found that the best bet with fclo is to get it down quick, not try to mix it with anything because the fishy flavor is REALLY strong.

i guess you could maybe make a ceasar salad dressing with regular flavour.

or go for capsules.

for my dh, he takes it straight and doesn't really mind the flavour. i take it with my nose plugged and then chase it with juice.

do you have your dh's consent for this? because if he doesn't want to take it then i don't think you should try to sneak it into his food. maybe see if you can come to some consensual compromises about it?

I just make my own capsules. My dh can eat just about anything but even he thought the FCLO (the orange liquid flavor) was pretty gross. I can get 5 mL (1 tsp) into 6 size "00" capsules (which you can buy online or at the health food store). I take 6 FCLO and 6 BO in the morning right after breakfast and I can manage to swallow about 6 at a time with a gulp of water. I don't notice any taste afterwards (burps etc) and I'm VERY sensitive to that. Would your dh willingly take capsules?

yes, I said I need to CON him into taking it...as in bribe him and convince him it will not taste like someone just rubbed dirty fish all over his mouth. He HATES fish but really wants to take fish oil (for cholestroal, blood pressure, asthma problems as well as the omegas...) You are correct and he is a grown up but that doesn't make him any less wimpy in trying something new. I was merely curious if there was some simple way to disguise the flavor better to convince him to want to take it daily...I think you are right playa mama and its just something you gotta shoot down and be done with!
Rasa thank you so much, I was trying to sort out how many of those dang capsules it would take...it seems like alot but it would be nice and convinent too. Are you able to prefil them?
Thank you guys for the tips I hope the chocolate syrup works. Dd loved her nordic naturals lemon off a spoon and I think she will think I am trying to kill her if this stuff is truly awful! Maybe we will just shoot it down with a chaser of chocolate syrup on a spoon!

really, it comes with a syringe and i just shoot it toward the back of my tongue. don't let it hit the back of your throat because it stings for like 20 minutes.

also, for you dd, i put about 1/2 mL in the syringe and then fill the rest with juice, you could use choc milk or something and then my dd just sucks it out as i dispense it. it works really well.

Yes, I pre-fill about a week-at-a-time and store them in the fridge. I'd do more but I haven't quite figured out a fast enough system yet. I honestly might order a rack designed to hold a couple dozen of this size capsule at a time (from a scientific supply company). Right now I use a plastic lid flipped upside down that happens to have a channel the same size as the capsule to wedge them in an upright position for filling but I can only do 6 at a time that way and if I'm not careful, they wobble around when I'm trying to cap them. I guess I could try drilling holes in an old tupperware (etc) lid to hold them but that seems beyond me for some reason.

And the butter oil is a pain in the you-know-where because it is SO thick and goopy...one time I actually prefer the FCLO experience! I empathize with the grown-up-wimp thing...I should just learn to take it off a spoon already!

We have the Oslo Orange flavor and I'm the only one who can tolerate it - the kids won't touch it and I don't even bother trying to get DH to do it... I disguise the taste a bit by taking it after brushing, but before I rinse the toothpaste out of my mouth. Then rinse and rinse again, lol. It does have a bit of a sting to it so rinsing helps a lot. The flavor is so strong, I doubt I could hide it in anything successfully.

I bought the Green Pastures/Blue Ice fermented CLO too, in the chocolate flavor. Not because I thought it would be great, but because it was half price (this flavor didn't pass their taste test panels).

This CLO does not come with a syringe. I do have a syringe on hand so I tried it, and discovered why the bottle didn't come with one. It's because there is so much cocoa powder in the oil that you can practically stick a fork in it. Okay not quite that much, but it's not very syringe-friendly.

Also, I can see why this flavor is on clearance. Cocoa powder does nothing to hide the fishy flavor. I got my kids all psyched up for "chocolate oil" but upon tasting it, they spit it right out. Now I'll have to buy the gummy fishies from Green Pasture or something.

Best flavor we've had was the Cinnamon oil, my son actually used to like it. But then we got a case of the infamous batch with hardly any cinnamon flavor, just fishy flavor. Ever since, he's hated CLO. I would have a hard time paying $44/bottle, even with the case lot discount. So it's fishy cocoa CLO for me

I also bought this FCLO on sale... I make popcicles with lots of other strong flavors to mask the fishyness. Just make them small enough so that they get a full dose before the CLO flavor kicks in.
