Appointment Thread - Page 12

no icky test for me til I go to my midwife...

am starting to worry a bit, this was my third appointment in a row with higher than normal blood pressure... its nothing drastic for most people, 120/78 but thats high for me! i mean for me 90/60 is totally normal.

the last two times we attributed it to being a different doctor (was about 120/80) and then to me being in pain (was 130/80 something! but I hurt so bad!)

I guess it could be due to having a different nurse and she had just questioned me on my homebirth choice before doing my blood pressure (way to make it spike!)

In any case... heartbeats in the 140s... Mae is bouncing around like a gymnast in there and I am measuring dead on for 25 weeks... which I am 25 weeks today!

OH! Also, I might have a UTI without any symptoms (or without any symptoms until they told me I might have a UTI and now I have every friggin symptom in the book lol)

it showed up on my pee stick and they are sending it away for culture to be sure as they have had a few false positive pee sticks lately.

You can also do unsweetened grape juice in place of the yucky drink, FYI

Good luck to all of you ladies doing your GTT this month!

I am SO glad I declined it this time around, I really hated how crappy I felt last time. I may do some finger pricks with a glucometer here and there instead, I'm not really worried about it though.

I/m sure I'll get the lab sheet to do it tomorrow (then I do it whenever I feel like it in the next few weeks). Last time I passed no problem, and to me it's worth the headache just to get that official negative.

Mae--I'd be worried too. Something certainly to keep an eye on. While one is most likely to have hypertensive issues in a first pregnancy, having a different partner is a risk factor for subsequent pregnancies. I'd just keep an eye on it for now--but generally speaking, an elevation of 30/15 over your baseline is cause for closer watchfulness. Hopefully it's nothing!

AFM -- GREAT appointment today!!! Yeah, I gained another 5lbs this month (up 12 total), but I fully expected to. The good news is that my BP was 104/63 The BETTER news was that I PASSED THE GTT! By 35-40 points over what it was in the past. Yeeehaw!!! My OB said that for whatever reason, some women's bodies just respond differently to carrying different genders. I will take it!

Next appointment is in 3 weeks, then on to 2 week appts. Crazy how it is flying by

am watching it... though as I said theres also good reason for them too so im not freaking myself out too much... just watching for any other bad signs.

I def. have a UTI. They picked it up before I had symptoms but I have symptoms now!

UTI was confirmed... doc said she was pretty surprised it was asymptomatic before that test because the culture said it was (as she put it) a raging infection lol

in any case, another round of abx and overhydrating for me!

Both of my (severe) UTIs in my twin pregnancy were asymptomatic. I was completely shocked.

Hope you get over it soon! (

Dr.'s appt went well today. I heard the baby's heartbeat (so did dd ), and everything else was normal so no appts. for another month. Will find out the gd results soon, hopefully.

Boring appt (yay). BP is great. HB is great. Uterus measures fine. I'm up 16 lbs at 24 weeks, which I can live with (10 lbs less than my gain at this point last preg). Have to go to labcorp within next two weeks for nasty drink and to check antibodies (I'm rh- with rh+ husband and daughter). Next appt June 30th, then we're down to every 2 weeks, wow!

ROM & Kelly- Glad to hear things went well!

My appt yesterday was pretty uneventful in a good way. I only gained 3 lbs this past month, which is awesome, as the month before I had gained 8. I am up 26 lbs from my avg pre preg. weight, but feeling okay with that. BP was normal for me, baby's HB sounded great. MW palpated my belly and baby is breech currently. I thought that was the case though because on Tuesday I felt this small baseball type thing pressed against my skin to the left of my belly button. It was small and round and hard and stayed there for a minute, went away, and did it one more time. It felt like a head to me, but I have never felt something like that before so it was merely conjecture.

Next appt is June 30th. Do you guys go on your own usually? The woman whose appt was right before mine, her husband was with her and I thought maybe it was strange that DH has only gone to one.

I go on my own unless it's a special apointment (first time hearing the heartbeat, for example, in which case dh came with me). I also like to bring the kids...one, because it gets them more involved, and two because it absolutely lights up my OB. He just loves seeing them, after being at their births (well, two of them) and getting Christmas cards all these years.

...of course, the kids mostly are in it for the free stickers.

Once the pelvic exams start, I'm not sure if I'll be bringing the kids. Might be too much for them (especially dd) to understand.

I usually go alone. DH came once or twice with DD2 because it was a new OB, and this time he hasn't gone yet. The girls came with me this week and will for a few more, I think, at least until the GBS swab. They were so excited to hear Baby Brother's heartbeat!

My next appointment is the 17! The last few have been pretty uneventfull. The baby looks and sounds good. He will be here Sept. 15, according to the us. I can't believe how fast time is flying! Already 25 weeks along! And it feels like I just found out yesterday.

Mine only came to the 20 week u/s, he had to take off work even for that. He never got to go last preg, met the OB during labor.

I bring the baby, but this appt my mother in law met us there and played with her in the waiting room while I was in there, and I think we'll keep doing that.

My DF cannot go (for obvious reason) though he did go to my only MW appointment so far and may be home for a couple later on depending on when they are scheduled. I have taken my daughter a couple times and took my mom and daughter with to my ultrasound. Otherwise, I go alone.

My DH came to the first appointment and met the midwife. We have moved since having our last baby so it's a new midwife. I've brought my other kids to all my other appointments. Next week I have my appointment with my backup dr. I will only be bringing my youngest with since he'll have a well child check at the same time. Then I go back to the midwife next Saturday and if my husband isn't working then he'll come with me, but he works a lot of Saturdays.

At my last MW appointment my blood pressure was higher then normal and my iron was low. I think my blood pressure was high from having all the kids and having to bring our van into the shop that morning.

DH has been able to make it to all of them so far, but I didn't really expect it at first. It really only works out because my midwife comes to us, DH only works 5 min from our house, and his boss is really awesome and doesn't mind if he's gone for an hour one day of the month. I'm not sure he will be at all of them, and I don't mind either way, though it is nice to experience it all together.

My DP is a farmer and has been able to come with me to every appointment. I even tried to talk him out of going to the first, which was just the physical, pap and blood & urine samples. He waited for me and was smiles when we left. He is super excited about baby so I am extremely lucky and grateful he can join me. I have a "thing" about doctors and hospital and needles, and he is always helpfull!

I'm writing this as I'm bored out of my mind at my glucose test. Obviously I dint have the results yet, but the rest of the appointmen has gone well. Babies heart rate is 150, and the dr. is supportive of my wishes to avoid pain meds and intervention. She wants me to bring my birth plan in two appointments. As long as my glucose screening is normal then all should be well.

Have you toured the hospital?

Last time touring the hospital was really helpful in making my birth plan. I could see what things were "standard" and I could either not worry about putting in my birth plan, or, you know, what things were "standard" so I REALLY had to make sure that it was in my birth plan that I wasn't going to be doing the "standard," know what I mean?

You don't want to get into the hospital with whatever doctor was on-call, and have them act like "oh, we ALWAYS do it this way" without having it on paper that "nuh-uh, here's where my doctor signed that we are NOT doing it that way with me, sorry."

Awsome to have such a cooperative doctor! I like the previous posters suggestion, too! How much longer do you have to wait for your test?
