Changing the flora of the mouth? - Page 3

I know, see this is what my instinct is saying also. Even though I am seeing a holistic dentist. They said the reason you have to do this is because the pockets get so deep that then the bacteria can't get any air, and then they reproduce in an anaerobic environment (the spirochetes, that is). And so you have to clean them out so the pockets will shrink.

I don't know. I think that there must be some way to return the bacterial balance in the mouth without doing all of that.

I'm wondering how this all turned out for you and did you get anymore information on the safety of this? This pocket cleaning has also been recommended to me.

AS for probiotics and mouth health and gut health. It was my understanding and intention with taking the probiotics or the kefir to help my gut and that of my kids not to specifically change the flora of the mouth.

But for us, there is correcelation with 3 of 4 family members taking the chewable probiotics and getting cavities. My oldest daughter has 7 cavities and I even have one, which, this is my fourth cavity if my 40 years. My youngest, at age 2 had 8 teeth affected with muliple cavities in each teeth. All of these appeared in the same 6 months period. My middle daughter who took the probiotics but did not drink milk has no cavities.

My concern is that the probiotics were present on the teeth and created an acidic environment and contributed to demineralization of the teeth.
I still support the use of kefir, yogurt, etc. because of the balance and variety of organisms.
