Please tell me this is normal and that I'm okay!!

Here's the story: I had an extremely normal labor and birth with my little one this last Jan., I had a lot of trouble getting breastfeeding started...so I ended up pumping (for about 3 weeks), at about the time where my son got the hang of breastfeeding fully....I bled for about 2 1/2 days...I had clots (small ones) everytime I went to the bathroom...no pain involved and like I said..It only lasted a couple of days and was over with. I figured it was due to me pumping before and maybe him suckling later on might have gotten my uterus to expel anymore blood I might have had in there from birth. Well, I am now about 6 weeks PP and I have begun to bleed again. Its been about a day and I had very minor period like cramps before I started bleeding. I did have sex one day before bleeding this time, but doubt it has anything to do with it. I fully breastfeed my baby (he takes a passy, but rarely...) Could this be the return of my period?? I have to idea what to think!! Any advice would be great!! Thank you.

Sounds like a period to me, or at least a "pre-period"; that is what I call it anyways, when you have a practice type period, but not a "full" period, and it is more of a gear up for the return of your cycle. Some women have these and then go on to skip many months as they continue to BF.

Me, I always have a full return with regular cycles. I just have ovulation pain the other day. A bit frustrating when I can not get a break as many do and then have to worry about fertility this soon.

It could also mean that you are doing too much! Do you check temps or your cervix?

Well, all of that makes sense! I feel better now. lol. I haven't been checking my temp. I dont really think i'm doing "too much", but who knows, I mean - what is too much when your a mama?..... I'm just glad that there are others who have and are going throught the same thing I am.

With my son I bled for 4 weeks, stopped and bled for a few days at 6 weeks. Thought it was a period, but I didn't bleed again for over a year!

Very similar thing happened this time, but the weeks were slightly different. Stopped at 5, bled more at 7.
