I'm freaking out a little....first, some info. I nursed my DS (now 3.5) until I got pregnant with the 2nd one, my beautiful DD, who is now 11 mos old.
Let me state that I had my DS at 42 yrs old, and he definitely put my breasts thru the wringer....he still wanted to nurse thru the 2nd pregnancy and I finally got him weaned at 5 mos pregnant.
My daughter was born April 09 (at 44 yrs old--a surprise), started the whole nursing thing again, went back to work at the end of May and have been pumping at work ever since. My DS also began wanting to nurse again for comfort (so I've given in and nurse him just for a few minutes in the morning, always on the opposite breast that my DD has used that morning---the hubby hates that I'm nursing two--he thinks it's wearing me out and I think he may be right).
Meanwhile, my DH got a vasectomy in July of last year and this was an excellent doctor, who supposedly "ties" the ends up really great and has never had a patient become "potent" again. Let me just say that my husband could get anything pregnant, he is very fertile, about 15 yrs younger than me, as well. His count was definitely zero after the operation and we went through all the proper procedures.
I got my period back three months ago, and for the most part, I've been on time--I was a day or so late last month. My breasts started to really hurt about a week ago, and I am about a week late for my period. I can usually tell when I ovulate, and I don't think I did this time. I'm thinking I could be going through pre-menopause, besides I'm still nursing DD at night.
My nipples are fried....I started to pump at work last week, looked down at the bottle and was horrified to see that the milk was all pink and my breast was bleeding--from a crack below my nipple on the areola. Now the other breast is doing the same thing and was cracking and bleeding. Today the area looks all crusty--yellowish and even tender on the nipple and its been very painful to nurse at night. During work, I just turn the pump on a lighter mode and I can still pump some milk, but I'm worried my supply is going to dwindle. Could there be any chance I'm pregnant? God I hope not. I guess the best thing to do is get a pregnancy test tonight before I go home.
Please, Mothering Mamas, advise on the bleeding breasts. I've had breast soreness before that has lasted briefly, but never this. My breasts are not lumpy or hard anywhere, just crusty and sore around the areola and nipple and very sensitive when my DD nurses. What could it be?
