Clothing over cloth diapers?

My kids were not cloth diapered. I have a friend who is expecting her fourth child....it was a surprise baby and they had already given away all their baby gear. I've been invited to her shower and would like to get them some clothes, but I've heard that lots of baby clothes don't fit well over cloth diapers...?

If anyone has recommendations on what sorts of things to buy and where, it would be appreciated.

I'm a big fan of cotton pants with elastic waistbands and a matching cotton top. Carters makes cute sets like that. For summer I like the one piece romper outfits, Carters again. Or Gymboree but they are more expensive. Pants with zippers and snaps that are more tailored don't work as well, especially on a little baby. Most jeans are really tough to get on over cloth. If it has some give and seems like comfy, cozy clothing, chances are it will work.

Snap-up footed sleepers are fine. I haven't had trouble with onesies, my dd lives in onesies and leg warmers. I love babylegs!!!!!!(but I actually only have homemade ones) I second the jeans thing, but babies aren't comfy in those no matter the dipe.

I prefer overalls to pants for ds 'cause they seem to fit better over the cd butt. Osh Kosh in particular are quite roomy.

But gymboree has EXCELLENT sales.. I bought about 5 or 6 outfits the other day, and spent less then $30. Right now they are selling off last summer's line at $2.99 a piece. I stocked up.

I avoid onesies like the plague. They seem to pull on the cds.. and leaving them unsnapped looks weird to me. With my sons I dressed them in side snap tshirts and wool longies most of the time. With this babe, I intend on going with dresses over cds..

I have read that Hanna Anderson clothing has roomier butt area, but I haven't tried them myself.

Thanks, ladies. One more thing....I hate to shop for clothes and because of that I don't often know where to look when I need stuff.

I've been poking around online and have noticed that it seems very hard to find unisex clothing. My friend is not planning to find out the gender, so I can't buy boy/girl stuff. Anyone know of any good websites that have tops and bottoms that aren't covered with trucks or hearts?

I personally like the monkey tee with pull on pants... they also have an organic baby line that has light green sheep.

kohls has a few things..

Just my 2 cents but I hate onesies because they make it impossible to check the diaper for dirt/wet (I usually pull out the back of the diaper to take a peek).

Soft cotton shirts and elastic-waist pants are our usual. Look for a wide waistband so it doesn't cut into the baby or fold over and dip into the top of the diaper.
