Supplemental formula for an allergic 9 mo old.

Quick question please - I am exhausted waiting for more milk to come in, my daughter's weight has stalled for 8 weeks now (at 15#) and I want to supplement with a formula. Just a few ounces. I am unable to pump anymore.

She doesn't take solids.

She is allergic to dairy, soy, corn and egg. Which formula can I use?

Names like Allimentum, Nutramigen, Elecare and Neocate ??? Or are they elemental and I need an advanced fortified formula? If yes which one? My ped doesn't have a clue.

Human milk is not an option.

Elecare or neocate. Elecare has a vanilla flavored formula, that is what my dd drinks.

How old is your DD? And what are Elecare's ingredients? How do you get it? By Prescription?

Thanks.

Does anyone know what is a "human milk fortifier"? Where does one obtain it? What is in it?

"Human milk fortifier" is basically what NICUs mix into human milk to feed to low-weight preemies. It contains additional nutrients and raises the caloric load of the milk by a few calories per ounce. My understanding is that it's really expensive to buy as a "civilian". Parents whose babies were on HMF in the NICU are often told to give a bottle of breast milk fortified with formula once or twice a day to get some additional calories into their babies.

Does your baby have an allergist? If your ped can't recommend a formula that would be well-tolerated by your baby, your allergist would be my next stop.

HMF is basically milk based formula you add to bm. It's milk based though so not an option.

Your best bets are Neocate, EleCare, or Nutramigen AA (NOT regular Nutramigen). Problem is all of these are corn based. For a lot of corn intolerant babies, it won't be a problem, for some it will be though. The only way to know is to try. We're getting ready to try EO28 w/ my almost 13 mos to see if she can tolerate it. She's also dairy, soy, egg, wheat, corn and a whole bunch of other things.
