Alton Brown?

I am catching a new show. He looks really skinny to me. Is he sick? I know we can't gossip. So if someone wants to PM me that would be great.

He had a show just a little bit ago about losing weight, he showed clips of the cranberry farm and he'd, well, gotten thick around the middle, and so he deliberately lost weight. I think there's some loose skin left from this, but he seemed really excited in his other show about eating better and losing weight, and it was pretty good dietary principles, a real focus on non-processed foods, nutrient-dense choices and moderation for less-than-great choices.

Here's the first clip of the Good Eats show about his diet (the whole episode is there in clips).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2gaQ0IoIfU

His diet was quite simple, and based on eating nutrient-dense foods. Full explanation is in the show, for anyone else who wants to try it. I'm sure we could even publish the Alton Brown diet "lists" here and I bet a group of people will get on board to give it a try.

It's a pretty good eating plan, but I think he's a bit too skinny now. He lost something like 40-50 lbs.

Thank you for the link. I watched both videos which was the full episode. I think he looked better in this than what I saw last night. But maybe I am just getting use to his new look.

He really makes some excellent points and suggestions. But boy you really have to be disciplined.

I need motivation right now to get my butt in gear and do something about my weight. Maybe this is the kick I needed to see.

Oh, the other thing is. It think he would look better with more upper body muscle.

He'd look best if he gave up on the hair and just cut it short. Embrace the bald buddy! I saved that epi and meant to copy down the lists. It was such a refreshing way to look at diet. Thank you for the reminder

Bolding mine.
That is hysterical! But yea I have to agree with you. Alton we love you with or without hair.

Okay, question. I don't like fish. What can be used in place?

I wish he had a list of what he actually eats in a day. Like a sample menu or something to get an idea.

Depends on what you're looking for. I'm cool with the red meat thing, it works well for me, but probably not for everyone.

Did you watch the part about the brisling? aka sardines? I was SHOCKED at how mild canned sardines are. My son just wanted to eat them straight from the can. I should buy some today (making the grocery list now, should get off MDC!).

We have some my husband picked up last weekend. I might try them. But I don't care for fish, except shrimp.

Shrimp are extremely high in protein, definitely a healthy choice!

I'm going to pick up some sardines tomorrow. They have a date with the avocado sitting in my fruit bowl.
I also really want a smoothie now.
Alton looks pretty good - his face is too thin, but his body looks healthy.

From the Wiki page on him, here are the lists:

His first list he eats from daily include: fruits, whole grains, leafy greens, nuts, carrots, and green tea. His second list he eats from at least 3 times a week include: oily fish, yogurt, broccoli, sweet potato, and avocado. His third list he eats from no more than 1 time a week inclue: red meat, pasta, dessert, and alcohol. His fourth list includes foods he avoids which includes fast food, soda, processed meals (TV dinners), canned soups (salt), and "diet" anything because this was not a diet.

But I think its the omega 3's and stuff in the sardines is what Alton is aiming for. Shrimp is protein, but its missing these other nutrients.

Wonder if subbing shrimp and flax would work to some degree.

I am going to look into this.

Last night I made a batch of the almonds from that Good Eats episode (see youtube link above), since I already had all the ingredients.

They're delicious! I brought 2 oz. for a snack to work today... it's teeny!
