need some ideas...

My 3 yo DS favorite outfit right now is his tiger shorts and t shirt... he wears it all day everyday inside, but it's too cold to wear it outside.. and he cries and cries everytime we go anywhere and he has to put something else on. What would be a nice gentle way to get him to happily wear what he needs to to be warm outside or when we go out?
TIA

We have our favorites too, but it's mostly mild enough here that it doesn't matter too much. What about putting his favorite outfit on top of something warmer? Sounds like he's cooperating with you about changing- maybe he'd like the idea of putting on a long sleeved shirt under his tiger shirt? Or maybe he could pick out a new outfit with a tiger that would be warmer? Hope you find something that works for you both!

Exactly what I was going to suggest! See if he will wear it over some thermals or under some sweats; if he looks weird, don't sweat it but do take a pic to remember.

maybe somethind smaller, like a tiger hat or something that remind him of his favourite clothing. To alienate him a bit from this obsession

Or wear warm clothes over it? DS wore his thomas the tank t-shirt for about two straight weeks, but he has to wear a uniform to school, so he put it on under that, which made him happy....like when I wear fancy underwear...he felt pretty inside.

When my DS has his heart set on wearing shorts when it is too cold I can usually get him to put on some of DS2's babylegs under them (or something similar - he loves to wear "tights" ). Or, I suppose, he could wear some of my longer socks but he has never chosen that option. Just something to get his legs covered. As for a shirt, I usually let him wear short sleeves all year but insist on a coat to go outside when it is too cold.

I'd let him go out in the outfit. He will realize it is cold and then want to change. Or he might be perfectly fine in it.

At that age, my DD didn't mind the cold at all. I'll never forget the day we went to Sam's and she had on a super thin, short skirt, a tank top, and flip flops. And it was 10 degrees F outside. Nothing I could say would convince her that she was going to be cold, but I did take a coat just in case she wanted it.

I got looks like I was the worst parent in the world but she was fine. She did say she was cold, but she didn't cry or anything. And the next time, she wore something warmer.

I explained to DS (3 yo) that we have to put clothes in the laundry before we can wear them again. Sometimes his clothes "disappear" during off seasons. Usually, he doesn't ask for them, but if he does, I tell him that he can wear them when they get back into his drawer (he gets to pick his clothes each day). I also tell him if I think he will be too hot or too cold in an outfit. If he still wants to wear it, he can (as long as the weather isn't too extreme) and a bit of discomfort makes him rethink wearing those clothes the next time.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I did just let him wear the shorts on top of some warm pants, and he did look funny, but cute too! Now that it is warm enough for shorts, he is over that outfit lol!
