wool mattress protector?

I've seen wool mattress pads for twin beds that are suppose to protect the mattress when potty training toddlers. Do they work well? What about a using a wool blanket treated with lanolin, would that work? Any suggestions would be very helpful!

i use an old wool blanket that i slightly felted and it works great! i didn't lanolize it either.

We also use an old wool blanket that has been felted for a crib mattress cover. It is not 'lanolized' and works great.
