Microwaving plastic

When my ex brings toddler DS to the sitters, he packs some of his food in #5 plastic container. I don't know if sitter microwaves the containers (finding out tmrw) but they don't say microwave. All it says is made in china, the 5 in the recycled symbol and the fork and glass symbol. Do you think this was safe if they were microwaved? I am freaking out that they could leach into my son's food! Ugh!

I'd avoid heating plastic with food in it. To be honest, I avoid storing any food in plastic just in case. Acidic foods might react. Just time spent in contact with the plastic might leech chemicals into the food.

One day when we have the spare money we'll change all storage containers for leftovers etc to proper glass ones so we can stack stuff, but in the meantime, we recycle glass jars for the purpose. Mason/ canning jars are great because of the wide top.

Maybe buy one or two little glass storage containers (with the rubber lids) especially for your toddlers meals and that way you wont worry.

After throughly researching this for myself, I have ditched all of our plastic containers and now have a set of pyrex. Got it at Kmart (18 piece set for 25 bucks so it is not expensive). There is no way I would microwave food in plastic, particularly for my DS!!
