Have you looked at History Odyssey by Pandia Press?

Have you considered Montessori history? The "Montessori Teachers Collective" has posted an online (free!) list of lessons (for ages 6-9): http://www.moteaco.com/albums/history.html

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have been looking for a secular history curriculum as well.

I have seen such mixed reviews on SOTW. I want a secular resource as well and don't mind bible stories because I think knowing parts of the bible is important (literature, etc) - BUT I keep reading how they are presented as truth vs myths. So that makes me nervous.

I think I may just do my own thing with a spin(Usborne I am thinking - since we own it ) and living books. I am not doing anything official until her first grade year so I figure I have time...

I am a secular homeschooler and SOTW is used with the history curriculum I am using. I find that it definitley has a slant. But it is not difficult to spot and go around it . For example, in one of the chapters it was describing the non-christians as Barbarians. This led us to have a wonderful discussion on how rude that is, why they did it, and how the words you choose impact meaning.

Subbing so I can find these resources again without having to search. Thanks!

You might take a look at Joy Hakim's books - they're secular and very entertaining as you learn. One of the two series combines science and history - fascinating! Her "The History of US" books are so popular that our state homeschooling organization got her as a featured speaker some years back, and people were really excited that she was going to be there.

We're using these and I love them! My ds is 7, and he sits with me while I read them to him, and we discuss what I'm reading. He asks questions, I explain things to him, we pull out maps and figure out where the author is talking about, we look certain stuff up on the computer. It's a really well written series, lots of pictures, illustrations, etc. It's the first history curriculum I've really, really liked.
