chronic thrush-need new remedy

I have battled thrush since my twins were born nearly 5 years ago. I never had yeast problems before-aak.
I have been through everything on the moon when it comes back-and in the last 2 years have had it "only" 3x. But this bout is not responding-I've tried my Rx cream, gentian, 1-day diflucan, and am now on day 5 of 10-day diflucan treatment. Sugar intake is down. Water and proteins up. Paper towel and hot water/vinegar regiments in place. No bras. PLEASE give me your ideas...it's not going away, and I'm frustrated. I'm the "go-to" person for so many people when it comes to resolving thrush issues, but I can't answer this one!!!
Thanks-
beth

How much diflucan are you taking a day? I seem to remember the Jack Newman protocol is a higher dose than is typically given for yeast infections, and it usually goes for 14 days I think.

Here is the Newman Candida Protocol: http://www.nbci.ca/index.php?option=...tion&Itemid=17

He recommends 400 mg once to start and then 100 mg twicea day for at least 2 weeks until Mom is pain free.

Thrush sucks - sending thrush-free vibes your way!

Are you taking probiotics and Grapefruit Seed extract capsules? That might be something to add to what you are already doing.

If you are not responding to thrush treatments, then chances are it isn't thrush. Other possibilities are bacterial infection, vasospasm, raynauds, eczema, and allergic reaction. Are your nipples damaged at all?
I was also going to post a thrush question so I hope you don't mind if I chime in/ask here. I second the suggestions to try grapefruit seed extract and probiotics BUT stick with them even when the thrush seems to be gone - that was my mistake!

So my question is this - could my daughter's repeated use of antibiotics for an ear infection be causing MY thrush? She is 15 months and I have been battling thrush since about 9 months. From 11-13 months she was on and off antibiotics. I finally got the thrush to clear up using the above regimen. She has never had thrush herself. After a couple of moths antobiotic and thrush free she was diagnosed with the beginnings of ear infections at her 15 month check up and within days the thrush was back. I am back on the above plus genetian and nystatin (desperate and in a lot of pain this time!)

Anyone else seen a correlation like this?

Absolutely. I would start looking into alternative treatments for the ear infections.

OP- The only thing that worked for me was putting ACV on my nipples after she nursed. Then I would open up a probiotic capsule and put the powder on the vinegar to make a bit of a paste. I left it on there for as long as I was able. I also took them orally. Upon further research of yeast (candida) and seeing a naturopath I realized I probably had whole body yeast issues and went on a candida cleanse diet. I never had another yeast problem once I was done with that.

Some mothers have great success with oregano capsules - 3, 3x a day for 3 weeks, it seems to irradicate the candida problem for many - you could give that a go, I also agree with the ACV a pp mentioned - loved the making it up into a paste idea, although you're already doing the vinegar thing. Hope that you manage to clear it up.

This. GSE is what finally kicked the thrush for us with DD. We had tried everything else, pretty much, and the probiotic and GSE are what finally worked in combo with a couple more Gentian Violet treatments. I've continued the probiotics daily, and did the GSE for (I believe) 2 weeks or so.

YES! Me too. I had tried GSE topically, sanitizing everything daily, took a probiotic, and used Nystatin twice daily. But every time I thought it was gone, it would come right back. So finally, I tried the GSE in water and it worked immediately. It's nasty to drink, but it's well worth it in the end. Good luck!

I've battled thrush with my 3rd and 4th babies. The only that truly kicked it was a grain/sugar free diet, GSE and lots of probiotics.

chronic thrush

If anyone is still checking this posting...
I could go on and on like this case of thrush is, but I'm really hoping someone has a smoking gun for what to do to heal the skin to get rid of it. Do I really have to think about weaning a child (even though he's not ready?)
I'm at the end of my rope, and nothing else seems to be working. Plus I'm in an area where I am educating the docs about this condition, they really haven't a clue about it.
On the 2nd note, I'd love your actual candida cleanse diet ideas, I have read many different kinds and am a little apprehensive about being grain/sugar/milk-free for 2 more years!

I second the person who said to be extra sure it really is thrush. I had a horrid undiagnosed thrush episode with my first, and everytime after that I would catch it as it started and try everything until it was gone. I'm on my third and within a few weeks of birth I had what I thought was a raging thrush infection that just would not go away. My nipples were sore and pink in EXACTLY the same way thrush presented with my other two kids. The only difference was that NOTHING WORKED. Not. A. Thing.

Turns out the baby was tongue tied. You may really have persistent thrush, but get a second opinion from LLL or something if you haven't already just in case. I was damn near a thrush expert, but my son's TT latch happened to cause similar damage to what I had always experienced during a thrush flare up. There are probably other issues that can do the same.

chronic thrush

I'm wondering what led you to the tongue-tie diagnosis. My DS3 is nearly 2, so I think it wouldn't be that, plus I don't see other signs like that. But I'm wondering how you figured maybe it wasn't thrush??
I'm a LLL Leader and have been in contact with other Leaders but no one knows the answer. That's why I'm hoping to find another "chronic thrush" mama who can help me down a path of actual answers.
It feels and looks like the worst case I've had, but maybe I'm off track?

Wow, yeah, you probably would know at this point if it is tongue tie. That sounds extremely frustrating, though if it is something other than thrush I'd have no idea how you'd find out since I usually advise people to go to a LLL meeting and see what people think

Someone noticed that his bottom latch was bad, like his tongue wasn't out. That has happened in the beginning a few times with the other kids, and the lower-lip-flip totally fixed it (plus the pain felt different those times). When the same person noticed it STILL happening we took a closer look at his mouth and he did look tongue tied. At our diagnosis appoint at the children's hospital (we have an AWESOME one here) they confirmed and then clipped it that day.

I really hope you get the thrush reseolved (or figure out if it's something else...)

we had it!! for 18 months while nursing ds # 2.

the only thing that worked was the gse. I couldn't belive it, I drank it in water, put it on my nipples after each feeding dilutied, and swabed it around in ds's mouth after feeding, he did not like it but it worked. for the first week i used it every hour round the clock on myself? except while sleeping.
it was the first time I was able to nurse him without pain. also I soaked my bras and underware in the sink and gse,
I hope it gets better for you!!

What dose of GSE do you use for drinking?
