I do not have an instinct that tells me what is going on inside my uterus. When I sit and listen - really listen - to my body, what I most commonly learn is how long it takes my feet to fall asleep when I sit in half lotus. I honestly think that many people are this way. If we had really reliable instincts about our innards, no one would ever be surprised to be diagnosed with late-stage cancer.
You have a right to refuse or request any tests, but it is not out of line for your midwives to suggest a check to reassure themselves that your pregnancy isn't developing into an emergency that they should be prepared for.
If you don't want your midwives, you are free to fire them. But until you do so, they are obligated to do their jobs.

it sounds like they are more obligated to their insurance company, and not you.
personally, i would blow it off. and i would tell them that i refuse to do the test, remind them why i hired them in the first place, and make sure that they are still going to live up to THEIR end of the contract to give you LOVING, UN-BIASED care, if you should call them for some reason. you need to clear the air, in case you do call them for the birth, because, honestly, at this point, it seems anything they may recommend or do will be based on meeting their insurance requirements, not necessarily giving you and your baby the best care they can.
and, i don't mean this in a snarky way *at all*, but unless you were charting and are 100% ACCURATE of your conception/ovulation date, and therefore due-date, saturday may not even BE 41+6, yk? it could be 40+5 or 43+2. do THEY realize this?

I agree that it's not out of line for them to want to test you, or even that they want/need to cover thier butts.... However, i've also been talked down to the way i think you are describing.... in my case it was an OB telling me I should get an early U/s, which was also acceptable for her to suggest I do, however it was the WAY that she did that was infuriating, and I think that's what you're saying, too... So, I feel for you. And, yes there are plenty of people who are not in touch with thier intuition, and many others who ARE on various levels and that's for you to decide, IMO.
Hugs,
Lia
