Talk to me about wool

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of using wool covers over prefolds or fitteds for this new little one for the first few months until my pockets fit (unless I fall in love with it and don't want to quit). Here are my questions though...

Why does everyone say it's so addictive and wonderful?
How many wool covers would I need?
Can they wear clothes over the wool and have the clothing not get wet?
Can you use the same cover all day, or do you have to have a fresh dry one for every change?
Can the wool be just a single layer, or do I need to add extra wool to the wet zone?
If I'm using old sweaters to make my covers, what do I need to do to prep them for use?

Thanks!

This website outlines very well the use of wool in diapering:

I have four covers, but could probably get away with two or three. You only need to switch to a different cover if the current one gets wet at all (even then, you just let it dry then it's ready to use again).

Here's a tutorial for making covers:

I don't think you need to add an extra layer to the wet zone, just run the water with lanolin in it through the zone a few more times when you lanolize the covers.

Hope this helps!

I use wool interlock soakers over fitteds------usually with babylegs, not pants.

But mostly I use knit wool shorties/longies over fitteds. I hate wool over prefolds, and I use the same pair all day and they never get wet. I just apir it with a t shirt/LS shirt and socks.

I have had zero luck with wool soakers made from recycled sweaters, altho its very cheap.

I will use my longies probably about 5-10 days before washing them , unless they get poop on them lol. With a good fitted that very rarely happens.
