Got pregnant while taking Phentermine?

Hello,

I am wondering if there are any of you out there that found out you were pregnant while taking the prescription (not the kind you buy online) appetite medication Phentermine?

I'm doing some research on this subject. I'm currently taking it and am on a Dr. monitored weight loss program (have lost 20 lbs in 7 1/2 weeks so far) and keep thinking "what if I accidentally get pregnant while I'm on these pills?" So, thus the research. I only have about another month to be on them.

I've found a few articles and blogs about it on various websites, most stating that as soon as you find out your preg. to stop taking them. Lots of women I've read about were on them when they found out and their babies/children are just fine. I also read one article about a study done in the 1960's with women taking it in their 3rd trimester. Granted these were very obese women, but still.

So...have you or someone you know or have heard of taken the appetite suppressant drug Phentermine (yellow, white with blue dots or blue and white capsules with blue dots) and while taking them found out you were pregnant? If so, what did your OB-GYN say about this? What research did they advise to you, etc?

I have no experience with this, but a quick way to get an answer would be to go to a pharmacy and ask the pharmacists to look the drug up in their drug book. They can tell you what class of drug it is and whether it is safe for pregnancy. (I'd put my money on not safe FWIW) Didn't your doctor mention anything to you about it?

Actually I just had my first appointment with my new OB/GYN the other day and she said that since there are no actual studies involving pregnant women taking it (who would sign up for a study and risk their babies' health is beyond me) to just wait until I stop taking it to TTC because if you take the medication for a long period of time (say a year or so continuously) there have been reported heart problems that have arose in some patients, so she said that it could potentially affect adversely the fetus' developing heart, again there have been no actual studies done on this.

Best to be safe than sorry I guess!
