Nursing toddler affecting pregnancy hormones?

Thread Starter
I am about 9 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and I am still nursing my sweet 22 month old DS.

With my first pregnancy, I had morning sickness and several of the typical pregnancy symptoms. With this pregnancy, it has all been very minimal. I'm barely even tired and I am not nauseated the way I was with DS1.

Does anyone know how and if nursing affects your hormones while pregnant? There was some initial concern around 5 weeks because of bleeding which led the OB to discover my hCG levels were not doubling. However, progesterone was fine.

Anyone have any insights into this?

Thank you!

All I can pass on is the old advice that every pregnancy is different. I'm just barely nursing my four-year-old, and have realized that the morning sickness this time around (fifth pregnancy) is almost exactly following the pattern of morning sickness with my first child--the other three pregnancies were all different. Nursing or not, I've always had incredibly bad morning sickness.

I nursed DS until I was around 5-6 mo pregnant and quit making milk. My hormone levels were normal, but I was on progesterone b/c I don't ever make enough. I had somewhat less nausea this time around, but not significantly. I felt less tired during the first trimester, but that might have more to do with the fact that I am a SAHM now who gets naps instead of having to work at a desk job. This pregnancy has felt very different in some other ways - made me think it was a girl, but it's another boy - just a very different feeling pregnancy.

I nursed my toddler when I was pregnant with #2 and my pregnancy symptoms were different. Much shorter period of MS and not as tired. (maybe I'm just used to being exhausted all the time? LOL).
I didn't have low progesterone, just a different pregnancy. Actually my second pregnancy was much easier with the first, even with nursing for 7 months of it.
Congrats mama!

I have been nursing my 2 year old throughout this pregnancy and my symptoms have been much worse. My morning sickness was really bad and lasted much longer this time.
