23 weeks and having TONS of BH

Ok so I'm 23 weeks. 1st pregnancy was completely normal was induced at 38 weeks (they said my son wasn't growing, but he was but thats another story). 2nd pregnancy (with my daughter who is now 23 mos old), I went into preterm labor at 29 weeks. Had tons of shots to stop labor, several overnight mag sulfate stays, and put on bedrest at 29 weeks but carried her to 38 weeks.

So, yesterday I started getting BH. Tightening, very uncomfortable, about 20 an hour for and hour and a half, Progressed to starting to have some cramping in my lower back. They wouldn't go away until I got to leave work at the end of the day, and laid down on my side at home. Was drinking PLENTY of water, I know the drill there.

This morning I've only been at work 40 minutes and they are starting again. Every few minutes, my stomach gets rock hard. Very uncomfy. Baby is moving fine.

So it seems they happen when I am sitting up, and go away when laying down. Typical BH right? But what do I do when I HAVE to stay sitting up at work, and can't lay down? Will this hurt me? The scary thing is my preterm labor contractions felt and acted JUST LIKE these BH contractions. So I don't know what to think.

I also wanted to add, I've had diarrhea now for about 24 hours off and on, and an upset stomach.

Oh mama, you must be so worried.

First, get to your healthcare provider and demand an ultrasound to make sure the contractions aren't doing anything to your cervix.

I've read of lots of ways to stop BH's...

Tons of water
Warm Bath
Meditation
Laying Down
1-2 glasses of wine
boost your calcium/mag intake by 200%
bedrest

But really, first thing is to get that cervix checked...internal and external Os.

Agree with PP, since you have a history of preterm you absolutely need to keep an eye on this. The upset tummy, multiple ctx per hour and back pain all raise some red flags to me. I'd go get checked out.

With a history of preterm labor, diarrhea, back ache, and it being early in to your work day, I'd probably be on the phone to my HCP and seeing what they want me to do. It sounds like you should be seen today.

Lots of BHs aren't necessarily a problem, BUT 20 an hour is definitely a reason to be concerned, particularly given your history. I agree: there are too many warning signs here. Please call your doc.
