nestle boycott

Recently I read Milk, Money and Madness, which is a fantastic book and was very eye opening for me. As a result I decided to join the Nestle boycott. I went to their website and sent a brief message that I would no longer be buying any of their products. It's been a few days and I this morning I got a reply saying they would like to contact me and directly address my concerns and would I please send my phone number. I really have no desire to talk to anyone, I know that they will have some fast talking PR expert trying to convince me of the wonders of Nestle and all I really have in rebuttal is "formula kills babies". I don't have the time to do hours of research to come up with all the recent stats and I also have 3 small kids at home so talking on the phone is difficult at the best of times. However I don't want to just ignore this either. I am thinking of replying with a carefully worded e-mail.

So what I want to know is have any of you dealt with this company and this issue and what did you do? And does anyone have any advice or suggestions of what I should do. Thanks.

I would absolutely not give out my phone number to a stranger over the internet and am pretty shocked that they have the people power to phone call one customer to discuss their decision to boycott.

Good point, didn't even really think of it in that way.

if you want to respond (and haven't yet), you could write back and say, "thanks for offering a phone call, but i'm firm in my decision and not interested in speaking with a representative of nestle about it."

I wouldn't give my number either, i'm also boycotting nestle have been for a while now.

kudos to you for writing to them about your decision! I have been on the boycott for several years too. I would not be interested in speaking on the phone to the comp either. It is probably a way for them to get information from us boycotters so they can create a defense/offense on those subjects... I like the idea of a response that says you are not interested in the phone call too (PP)

Good for you! Same here, I certainly wouldn't give my phone # and like the idea of a short letter making your point.

Just think about it: someone calls you from an office, well-prepared and trained for the task while you're juggling the needs of 3 small children in the background (as in keeping them from unpotting your flowers while you're on the phone or whatever).

And FTR: I avoid the said products as far as I can. It's a bit more difficult here in China when I buy "western products" because most of those are mainstream, big-name brands. Sigh.

So I replied to the e-mail today. I kept it brief, declined to give my phone number and simply restated my position and why I was boycotting. We'll see if it gets another response.

Nes tle is in a tailspin over their huge recent PR blunders. Google Nest le and facebook and you will see what I mean.

They are doing some major damage control, and trying to cover up the negative info that has come out about them. I would not be surprised if this is somehow related to recen events.

This is me! I find new things frequently that weren't formerly Nestle, so it does change some.

I also would never give out my number or address to them. Curious to see if they respond to this email!
