Does anyone else have a loony high jumping dog?

So, we've got this young mutt, and she's sweet, but is as nutty as can be. She's got a lot of hound in her 'cause she bays (my guess is bluetick coonhound, but who knows). She's about 55lbs and has very short hair with no undercoat like a pit or a greyhound. The vet thinks she has some sighthound in her like a greyhound because of how heavily muscled her thighs are. Her nose is not especially long so her face doesn't look especially greyhoundy, but it's is not short at all. In the face she looks a little houndy though not quite as droopy – maybe like a pointer/bird dog of some ilk. She's very long and lean and lanky other than the super buff, olympic speed skater thighs.

Anyway, more to the point, she jumps like a maniac! We had a puny little 3 foot fence which was perfectly adequate to contain our older 35 lb border collie/corgi/mutt mix. She could jump it without even trying. In fact I think that's how she first discovered she could jump it. She just got super excited and whenever she's the least bit excited she jumps and she sailed right over it with no effort at all.

Obviously that fence was not going to work, so after trying a few other tricks, we laid down the cash for a 6 foot high wooden privacy fence. Pretty darn tall, right? I'm afraid she's going to jump it! She can jump up and get her head and shoulders and chest over it. That's 7 feet at least! She's nuts and an amazing athlete! I've got a plan to put some wire up at the top, but I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there who has a kangaroo-dog hybrid like I do?! I swear she could be on TV with these jumping skillz if I worked on it a little bit, but I don't want to 'cause I don't want her to be able to jump the fence!

Anybody else got a high jumper? Tips? tricks?

Our hounds would even climb the kennel, I'd seriously consider getting an enclosed kennel for when you aren't home. A blue tick is a scent hound and they will wander off following trails if they are not contained well. The pointing breeds ( we have a german shorthaired ) generally don't to that in my experience. They are much more people oriented as they have a different hunting style. Ours jumps too but she does not wander, the couple times she actually went over the fence she just came to the front door and waited to be let back in LOL. Unlike the scent hounds we've had, who will follow a trail all day.

She's a house dog when we're not home, so that's not a problem. I would never leave her outside if we weren't home now, not after seeing how high she can go! Crazy! She absolutely adores being outside, though, so she's out most of the time I'm home, but I've always got an ear out for her. She always bays before she tries any jumping. She mostly does it if she sees another dog. She just wants to play! I think she's part scent hound (the baying and snuffling on walks) and maybe part sight hound if not kangaroo!

She actually looks just like a black german shorthair pointer, but she bays, so I think she's got the scenthound in there, too. German shorthaireds don't bay, do they? I'm pretty sure there's scenthound in there, too. She is also soooooooo excitable (only 1.5 yr old)! Loves to fetch and just jumps jumps jumps. Her vertical leap must be 5 feet! I don't have any grown-up pictures of her online, just puppy pix, but here's another link to a dog that looks like her: http://khobbie.posterous.com/?tag=germanshorthair .

I've just never met another dog like her! She is a sweetie, but has a whole lotta instinct going on, too.

Arduinna, what does the German Shorthaired Pointer's bark sound like? I'm kind of amazed at how much our girl looks like a black one. I didn't even know they came in black, but when I googled it I found breeders and pix. She was found in a rural area where it wouldn't be at all uncommon for people to keep and breed hunting dogs so I'm inclined now to think she really might be mostly pointer with maybe a little bit of scent hound in her for her voice. She's very very exuberant! She does sometimes point, too, but I know other dogs do that, too.
