"Grandma's throwing you a birthday party" - Page 2

In my family it's common to have more than one party, we have a large extended family who enjoy celebrations. So, we do a small, special celebration on the day of the birthday with our immediate family, and I let my MIL or my mom do the big party. It makes them happy, my kids love the attention...it's a lot of fun in the long run. I have no problem allowing my MIL or my mom to celebrate my child. I know some people on MDC don't agree with celebrating birthdays like that, but it's one battle I've decided to let go.

A kid's birthday party I don't have to do anything for...FABULOUS. I don't see bad intentions I see love and I love people loving my kids.

Wow, she sounds really really sweet.

I would do your aquarium thing and be grateful that she is throwing a cake and balloons and treats for your wee person.

How wonderful for you all!!

Trin.

As long as the intention is good natured, then I'd go with it. It sounds like my MIL, but my MIL is always trying to do what she perceives to be the 'proper' way to do things (What!! You're not having a bday party?! Every kid deserves a bday party!) and is constantly trying to take over things that traditionally the parent would do or one up us.

Your MIL OTOH sounds like a sweet caring grandma who just wants to get the family together. It doesn't sound like an OTT party with pony rides, bounce houses, lavish gifts, and inviting the entire neighborhood.
