I'm ready to quit....

of course i'm not, but I seriously just. feel. done.

I have thrush - a very, very, very bad case. I think it all started when she bit me with her new found teeth about two weeks ago. At this time, I am (my nipples are )swollen, hot pink, cracked/bleeding, tingling, and incredibly painful. I just got a prescription for nystatin which I am going to start ASAP; however in the meantime...I just don't want a thing to do with nursing or pumping (I work full time). My breastmilk is pink

I have NO freezer supply left, I have pumped (and cried) 6 oz today, and I just can't bring myself to do it again.

Options:

1. LMAO! I find someone with a current narcotic prescription to loan me a pill.
2. I borrow several oz from my close friend but I think her milk has some issues with Lipase (sp?). She is super healthy and safe
3. Since DD2 is eating a massive amount of solids I try to see how she gets by with my 6 oz bottle and a bottle of whole milk. She has had whole milk before and LOVES it, however after her last experience with it (and her largest consumption 5oz) she came down with a cold and I am paranoid that it is a sign of a dairy allergy because DD1 is so intolerant of it.

I would appreciate anything you have to suggest. I am just miserable... and done. I had issues with thrush and mastitis throughout my nursing relationship with DD1 which lasted 27 months, but this time I just don't feel like I can push through... of course I will.... but I am just tired. I am just getting rid of a pretty bad mono-like infection (CMV) that was totally written off as "mom exhausition" for the 5 months that I was, what felt like, on my death bed.

ugh...

I like option #1 But seriously - have you thought about taking acetominophen or ibuprofen for the pain? You sound miserable!

What are you doing for the thrush? Hopefully someone here can help.

Hang in there, Mama.

I'm so sorry...sounds like your going through a horrible time here. I have to agree with Patio... I would certainly be taking some pain meds. You may discuss this with you doctor...I'm sure they'll give you something that is safe for nursing. This would be my first choice for treating the situation. I'm sure you know that you have to treat your daughter too.

As for the whole milk, I would be wary of using it a substitute. Get some formula and see if she'll take it.

While I know you feel very passionate to nurse your daughter, you really need to make sure you are taking care of yourself. I think it would reasonable for you to try and pump regularly (like every two hours) to maintain your supply for a couple of days until every thing is better. You must sterilize the pump parts religiously and I'm pretty sure at really high temps. I would see what a local IBCLC says about it.

ITA take some pain meds - you really do sound miserable, oregano capsules can do wonders, 3, 3 x a day for 3 weeks, you could give that a go, the idea about borrowing milk could work, the thing with the Lipase is to scold the milk just after it's been pumped to kill off the hormone that starts off digestion - that's why it smells funny when defrosting - so the milk would be brought up to just before boiling point and then turned off, don't put it in the microwave it won't work, but that could work for you until you get this worked out. Huge big hugs to you, and one more thing you may need to take a rest, let you body recover, thrush is a sign of overdoing things and that you may need a little time to yourself to get over things.

So sorry to hear jelliphish! I have had thrush several times with this babe. I now take biotin everyday to keep it away. I take 10 mg 3x a day, more if it is bad (like if I eat sugar or chocolate.) Grapefruit seed extract can kill yeast really quickly, take the liquid in a bit of water. But you will need probiotics at least 2 hrs away from GSE because it kills good bacteria as well as yeast. Also if you are taking biotin you need to take magnesium as your body needs it to process biotin.

Take care of yourself!
