Natural Carpet Cleaner Solution

I want to make an all natural carpet cleaning solution for use in an electric carpet cleaner. In the past I have used Simple Green but I've decided it is just too much chemical. I was thinking of just using a vinegar and water solution but I'm concerned that will smell too vinegary when used all over the carpet. I guess I could just dilute it enough, but I also want the carpets to be very clean! Any suggestions?

I've used Dr. Bronners peppermint soap and very hot water for years and years. Works great. Just a small bit of the soap and lots of hot water.

The next time I shampoo (soon, since the weather is getting warmer) I will also be adding vinegar. I mop with only hot water and vinegar and the smell goes away when dry.

I've heard vinegar sets stains, so i'd do my research first regarding that one.

I also used Dr.B's--but only a little, as PP said. Made the room smell great!

Wonderful, thanks for the Dr. Bronners suggestion. I'll do that!
