Weaning party...

Hi mamas!!

I am pregnant with baby #2 and don't know that nursing DD while pregnant (like I had thought I would be able to do) is going to be something I can do right now due to some unforeseen circumstances (namely, spotting and low progesterone issues).

I was wondering if you creative ladies could help me come up with some ideas for a weaning party for DD.

She will be three April 5th...so I guess maybe it's even more for ME to do a weaning party for her to signify what a wonderful nursing relationship we have had for the past 3 years....and to mark the change in our relationship as well. I want to signify her growth and independence, and also how amazing it felt for ME to know that I was the one nourishing her and comforting her the way that I was made to do so.

This decision hasn't come lightly, and I'm not sure I'll ever really feel necessarily "good" about having to wean her/push her myself instead of letting her wean when she wanted to. I really expected to be able to nurse her until she, herself, was done, but life sometimes throws you curve balls and you have to learn to adapt and do what is best for everyone as well as you can.

Has anyone ever done a weaning party before? Does any one have any ideas of weaning party type activities or outings, etc?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be deeply appreciated!! Thanks mamas!!

I weaned my daughter early in my pregnancy this past summer. She had just turned four, and was nursing once, max twice, a day. We decided that we were going to just keep it in the family, although we did consider doing a tea party and inviting her grandmothers. What we ended up doing was taking her to her first movie-theater movie, going out for a special dinner together (me, DH, and DD), and giving her "big girl" weaning gifts. We got her a watch and a lap desk that has her name on it...

Good luck in whatever you decide!
