Canned stuff still good?

I've got some home canned apple sauce that's almost a year and a half old. It still seems ok, none of the lids have popped up, etc. It was canned under good clean conditions and all that. Can I still use it?

Yup

I've got some pickles that are close to 10, and they're still good.

Properly canned foods last for YEARS! I remember my grandmother getting jars out of the utility room that were dusty and quite disreputable looking, and were some of the best strawberry preserves I ever ate

I try to eat canned stuff within a year, but wouldn't worry about most things up to 2-3 years. I am not such a big fan of 10-year-old canned goods, though.

We just finished eating the last of the applesauce I canned in 2005. I went a bit nuts that year about bought 2 cases of apples! I was so freaking sick of making and canning applesauce.
