Exposing to Shingles for Chicken Pox

I've been noticing how people are having more and more trouble finding a CP party for their kids. I grew up overseas and never caught CP. When I came back, I was in high school when my mom came home from Africa with Shingles. My 8-year-old brother and I both came down with Chicken Pox. Until then, none of us realized that it is the same virus. (I think, I have not fully done my research here, so please forgive me). I'm 90% sure we got CP from my mom's Shingles.

Has anyone else mentioned the possibility of creating a Shingles/CP party? Find an older adult with Shingles to expose their kids to for CP?

(Am I nuts?!?)

Thanks!

No you are not nuts...it is possible to get CP from shingles exposure and I have heard of people exposing their children to shingles so they could get CP.

Your DH must have had a subclinical case of CP as a kid....one cannot get shingles if they have never had CP.

interesting-my grandpa has shingles right now. my unvaxed son has not had cp yet, should we expose him?

i dont necessarily want to deal with him being sick of course, but at the same time, i always thought i'd rather him have cp as a kid than as an adult-my dh never had cp. that he knows of anyway...

is it as simple as being around the person, or do you have to touch a blister? because this is what my grandpa was told.

okay one more q: i had cp as a kid, but if im around my grandpa, could i still carry the virus and then pass it to my son???

Our DD got chickenpox from grandma's shingles. Grandma was scratching her blisters and touching everything around the house. (Gross, I know. This is before she knew it was shingles.) DD was about 2 yrs. old then.

I was thinking about trying to do this. We don't know anyone with shingles but I'm thinking about calling up a retirement home. I doubt the kids will want to touch anyone's blisters, but would it work to use a cloth? I read that towels can transfer the virus. Other ideas about how?
