Feline Leukemia

I have an 14 year old cat who began having recurring mouth infections a couple years ago. He also lost half his body weight at that time and hasn't gained it back despite eating a lot. I treated him for possible tape worm a few months ago. The vet said we had to remove his teeth, and we did, but that didn't stop the infections. The last vet mentioned the recurring infections are probably from feline leukemia and all we can do is give antibiotics when the infections come. I ran out of abx and so I either need to find a vet and ask for more or go back to using herbals. I'm thinking some pureed liver with goldenseal, echinacea, vit C, cod liver oil and butter.

Should I have him tested to be sure it's FeLV? What about my other cats? Are there other treatment options?

I would likely test to be sure as you have other cats....they have already been exposed but I would want to know for sure...I am surprised they just assumed. Kidney disease cats also often have major mouth issues....I would run a geriatric profile to know what I was dealing with

He had the geriatric profile three times in the last 2 years and actually they came back saying his numbers were "extremely good for his age". I'm going to try and find the numbers to call and see if they included the FeLV test in that.
