AED hairloss help!

Does anyone else deal with this? We've had excellent control (about a year now) with Depakote but it has cause a lot of hairloss and the texture of what is left is like straw. We've given her zinc and selenium and it has helped but very little. We saw our epi yesterday and she suggested for us to try vitamin D in addition to a multivitamin. It may seem petty but Devon had beautiful thick hair. I'm glad that the epi understands and talked about alternatives if the hairloss becomes intolerable. She thinks felbatol would be something to try if the hair thing becomes to much.

Please pray that the vitamin D work. Its just one more thing to have to deal with.

I hope that the Vitamin D works. I know how hard it can be to tamper with AEDs, especially if you have seizure control (or something close to seizure control) but the hair loss is hard to deal with. Has she had her depakote levels checked? I've taken Depakote and had some major hair loss and my levels were toxic. The same thing happened to my son. When we lowered his dose, his hair stopped falling out so much and he has his luscious locks back. I had to stop taking Depakote altogether before my hair was back to normal. The good thing is that this is reversible, at least in the vast majority of cases.

Good luck!
