DS2 is gonna be 6 weeks on Friday and he's 90th percentile! He eats constantly (EBF). 12lbs and 23.5". Should I be concerned?

I think percentiles are tricky anytime the first few months. how much did baby weigh at birth? I think my ped gave me a nice, concrete goal; double birth weight by 6months and I think he said triple by a year.
DS was 6 lbs 14 oz at birth, so if he were 12 lbs at 6 weeks, that would be quite a jump! But if you have a 10 lb baby (or larger), than that might not be the case. FWIW DS is almost 13 lbs and will be 16 weeks on Friday. so he will probably be double his birthweight around the 4 month mark.

He was only 7lb 2oz at birth and came home at 6lb 8oz. I have to go back to work in 6 days and worry I will run out of milk!
|
Just being in the 90th% is no indication for problem. Someone has to be in the 90th% and there is no sign for worry from that one fact alone.
Are there particular reasons you are worried about not being able to provide enough milk? Are you pumping now? Do you have a freezer stash? Will you be able to pump at work? Will you be co-sleeping and demand feeding while you are around DS?

The concern that he is "too big" and the concern that you will run out of milk are two very different concerns!

Sounds like he is getting plenty, though.... or he would not have grown so much!! Mine have all fussed at the breast at sometime or another. If he is growing so well AND you are stashing some back I see nothing to worry about. My oldest refused solids and therefore was [I]exclusively[I] breastfed until 13 months before he ate table food and was like 30lbs.

I had the same thought when my DS #1 was that young...he spent his first few months 97%ile huge. I asked our ped if there was some point at which I should be concerned. His response was, "not with an EBF baby. What baby needs, mom provides. It's a beautiful relationship."
He's such a great ped.

Your nanny may be misinterpretting is cues, or feeding too much too fast. Here is a great handout for care providers that may be useful: http://www.kellymom.com/store/freeha...le_feeding.pdf
