Silly sunning question

I've always heard that putting diapers in the sun is great for stains - unfortunately, there hasn't been much sun since DS was born! It's bright and sunny today, so I thought I'd give it a try. But - do the diapers need to be freshly laundered and wet for this to work? Or can I just lay out my dry (clean) stained diapers?

They should be fresh out of the washer.

Yes, leave them out wet. Might need more than one session to get the really nasty stains out.

I put some prefolds out after they came out of the dryer, and the stains came right out!

So, I didn't feel like doing a load of laundry, so I just laid some dry stained BG inserts out on the patio table for the afternoon. The stains totally faded! They're hardly noticable now. DH has promised to set up a clothesline, so I'm looking forward to more sunning!
