How big are the girls? there is a free pattern (for a regular sling) on the Maya website (click on the site map, then "low cost alternatives"), and I use those instructions to make doll slings. It's about the easiest thing out there, IMO.

For a toddler/young child, 1/2 yard of fabric, 45 inches wide should be plenty. I like to hem all sides, just because it looks neater, lasts longer and doesn't take that much time, then fold it as the maya instructions show, sew on small rings (I use rings that come 5 in a package for about a dollar--they are probably 1.5 inches diameter (outside measurments), thread it, and you are good to go!

Since safety isn't an issue, the sling doesn't need to be snug, so thread it to a position that is easily slipped on and off, and just leave it there! As the child grows bigger, it is still somewhat adjustable, so it will grow with them.

This link should get you right to the maya sewing instructions:

If I were doing it I would make a pouch style sling--easy to make, easy for them to use. I would use these basic instructions:

making it narrower, maybe 15 to 18 inches wide and maybe add only 4 inches to the length so you will probably need it about 36 inches long? I think you could get three doll slings from a yard of 45" fabric. At least two. A nice flannel or denim perhaps? A fabric that looks nice on each side is best.

I made a few kid slings and I used a free pattern for an adjustable sling with rings with a hot dog fold. Do a search you'll likely find it. (I'll try to too when I have a chance). To make it really easy I used tea towel fabric. It is already a great width. THen I cut the proper length. To fold for the rings you take the ends of the fabric and fold in the sides to meet at the middle (while lying flat) then takes the folded edges and fold again to meet at the middle. sew this at 1 inch and 5 inches (appoximately). Put through the rings and fold over sew again a few times for strenght and tuck the unfiinished end in. Hem the other end. I hope this makes sense. I just loved not having to finish the two long sides. SOOO quick.
