Hello everyone.
I just wanted to introduce myself since I sometimes can't help myself and I have to chime in or ask a question here or there. The majority of you seem to know each other and interact so well and so often. Sometimes I am a little intimidated!
I know you don't get too many (if any) guys on this message board. I am just a very curious and excited and active father and I feel that I learn so much about my baby, my wife and myself from all of your ideas, experiences and advice to one another.
There really isn't a board out there for guys to go and talk about parenting and child development (not that I know of anyway).
I am a 38yr old first time Dad living in a large Canadian city. I have a wonderful wife of 3.5 years (although we have been together for 9yrs) and a gorgeous baby daughter who is 8 months old.
I work for a non-profit organization that strives to increase access to nutritious, affordable, sustainable and culturally appropriate food for all, especially children. I love my job and my family. My life basically revolves around both.
I also love to build and/or create and/or manipulate objects into other things. I try to find time to make sock monsters, I like to build and paint and I want to actually learn to sew. My wife and DD gave me a sewing class gift certificate for my birthday and I hope to make some cool toys and possibly clothes soon.
In five more weeks I will be taking 2 months of parental leave to finish off the year's leave we get while my wife goes back to work. I am excited and a bit scared.
Anyone else out there who would like to introduce themselves?
Also, if it feels weird for you to have a guy around, or would like some topics to be private you can feel free to let me know or tag them as guy free or something.

I hope you enjoy it here and find it a valuable resource. We have a Dads forum if you want to talk about fathering issues in specific (and women do post there also), but there are plenty of forums that you might find interesting or useful.
