So...TMI Thread Time

I'm starting to learn that there really isn't anything "TMI" on MDC when it comes to health (I mean, my DDC discussed all sorts of gross pregnancy stuff :P)

So, this is a poop thing...

I've heard that you're supposed to have a BM every day...I don't. It's never really bothered me...Slow digestive tracts run in my family (so do hemorrhoids actually..hmm) Sometimes when I introduce extra magnesium (I use this) it helps...

I'll admit to not having the best diet. I could use more fruits and veggies (we're going to try to have a salad with dinner everyday) Is it just bad diet? Heredity? Low vitamin/mineral? Or some kind of combo...and how do I tell without medical intervention (My experience with the doctors here...military...has already shown me that they won't test for anything)

I'd definitely start with diet and see if it helps. Adding some flax into your daily diet could help too. A good pro-biotic would help also.

The daily BM thing is a myth. As long as you are regular for you, and things are coming out easily (i.e., not too hard or too soft), then there is no need to worry.

If you find yourself regularly using magnesium, then this could definitely be a problem as extended or overuse can cause issues (dehydration, dependency, etc.), so definitely try dietary and other changes first before resorting to that.

Well, it also helps me sleep...that's the main reason I use it

I was going to suggest yogurt every morning for breakfast.

Me peresonally, if I skip a day, I am miserable until I go finally. And I usually "make up for lost time" with every day that is skipped. But like Mosiac said, that is whats normal for ME. I also have a high metabolism.

It is a myth in the allopathic medical world.....not in the natural medicine world. http://www.healthymuse.com/files/pdf...lMovements.pdf

Natural Calm is fine for daily use and I would encourage it if it works for you. Most people eating a Standard Amercian Diet are magnesium deficient causing many side effects including slow bowels but also heart disease and more. This form of mag. wouldn't run a risk of dependency like saline laxatives: magnesium sulfate.

Ditto. Nor in the traditional diet world where people normally went 2-3 day. I would consider that normal as well based on my experience changing diet and improving digestive health and "bowel quality".

.
Cool. The instructions say "until bowels are comfortably loose." Does this mean until my personal preference?

I upped my veggie/fruit intake and it's gotten much better... I guess I just needed some fiber!

(can I be that excited for you?)

I went vegetarian (and not SAD vegetarian, one that eats lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, and fermented foods and probiotic foods) and it made all the difference in the world. Same with my DH. I never knew that it was possible to go more than once in a day, but I'm proud to say that I do, and it's quite a good feeling.

I'm going with JaneS on this one. Not a myth. Bacteria is produced in your gut daily and if it sits there it putrifies. When it putrifies it creates imbalances. Bowels should be moved every day-I do think there is some variation in normal though. 1-3 times per day is what I'd suggest is healthy.

Magnesium is also necessary for normal cellular function and our dietary sources are practically non-existent...especially given that many people overconsume calcium and they compete for uptake.

I'm unclear as to why you think utilizing a nutrient that is deemed necessary by even allopathic practitioners can be harmful? Unless you are talking about something OTC that contains magnesium as well as all kinds of other junk and meant specifically to move bowels like metamucil. IN that case I'd agree 100%. Most people though are in dire need of magnesium.

I think they were talking about a certain type that can cause dehydration...
