Therapeutic Listening?

I'm really excited about this - I hope to start soon!

Did any parents with more mildly affected children do this, and how happy were you with the results? What were those specific results?

My soon is more of the "phased out", low arousal, lost in his own world at times type, not a hyper/tantrummy/impulsive type kid.

Do you think this is good for someone like him?

Thanks so much mommies!

We did two rounds of Therapudic listening.

It helped.

My DD has mild SPD that is expressed in a reserved nature, shut-down if over stimulated, HYPOactive, auditority sensitive, motion sensitive, and some self-stimmming. She is not tantrummy or impulsive at all. Rather she is daydreamy or at times very precise/deliberate in her thoughts and actions.

She is very verbal and very bright- she has an IEP for OT/PT and is in a regular education PReK class and doing beautifully.

It worked really really well in building up her tolerance to noises. her ability to tolerate 'noisy' environments, her sleep improved, and the ear-covering/running from sounds decreased.

We just started TL for 4 yo DD (SPD and articulation disorder) to help with auditory defensiveness and overall regultion. She's on the second CD. Saw a little improvement with the first (Mozart), but a BIG improvement with the current CD (Peach Jamz)--in overall behavior--sleeping better, improved emotional regulation, some decrease in noise sensitivity.

At first it was a struggle getting DD to wear the headphones--her OT created a chart (smiley face for each listening session completed...turned in at the end of each week). I'm usually not into behavior charts, but it wasn't really reward based and it did encourage DD to complete the listening.

Another tip--we used DD's doll sling to carry the portable CD player in. Her OT had another shoulder-pack to use, but it was scratchy and bulky. The child size Hotsling works perfectly and it's nice and soft.

We've had a couple bad days this week...the first really tough ones behavior-wise in the last few months. Reminds me how much DD has improved with OT and the listening therapy.

My son has been doing TL for about a month now. He is very unregulated and sensory seeking. The TL definitely calms and focuses him. The classical music CDs seem to work better for him. I don't see HUGE changes but any little bit helps.

**I wanted to add that we had very little success w/ the CD that had words/sang portions. she could not tolerate a complete listening session since it bothered her so much...she did much better with the classical CDs so that is what we mainly used.
