Yoga: Daily Sun Salutations

Anyone want to join me? I've fallen away from my daily practice in recent years and I want to a series of sun salutations daily to bring me back. I do a set of 4 rounds, one to the North, South, East, West. This takes me a mere 10 minutes a day and I don't even have to bring out my mat for it. I'm at 2 days in a row now.

In my series I do:

I do this without the back bend at the end.

I'm thinking of adding a Warrior pose in there in the future and maybe on other pose. Which ones do you do?

I'll do it I've been doing them here and there. I actually would like to practice yoga more. I have a friend who inspired me because she reminded me you don't have to devote an hour all by yourself somewhere. I have been just practicing poses wherever whenever and it feels good. My kids actually like to do it along with me. I think it's good for them too with dance and gymnastics to be better balanced.

Speaking of does anyone actually teach their kids yoga? My kids can actually do simple poses very well, and i think it will be good for them. I notice a sense of calm when I turn soft music and grab my mat. I think i may get them each a mat as well.

Sounds like a good idea! The kind I do are just a little different. From the forward fold I go to "monkey," back to forward fold, step back to crescent lunge, step back to down dog. Then lower to plank, crocodile, up dog, down dog, and then step forward to cresent lunge, bring other foot forward to forward fold. Raise up, sit back to chair and then back to mountain. I'm going to start tomorrow and add them on to my morning workouts!

I've been doing them actually, though not always right when i get up. My ear is hurting today for some reason and it is making me quite miserable. It seems there are many renditions of sun salutation?

i hope your ear is feeling better now.

i tend to do traditional ashtanga A and B series. they are also a good base for doing improv if you want to add more asanas into your practice on a given morning. (the dvds of Shiva rea are good examples of this style, using salutations as a base and building vinyasa off of that.)

i hope everyone is having good luck with a consistent practice. i find that a little bit every day helps me more than doing a lot only once in a while. the discipline is as energizing, i think, as the actual movements.

http://www.yogajournal.com/

These are great inspiration. The myyogaonline is $9.99/month and has good videos. You can choose the level, length, type of yoga session you want to do, teacher

The yogajournal.com is free (i think, just click on the red "X" at the top right of the pop-up ad when the page loads). Go to the "POSES" tab & then go to "Build a sequence" & you can create your own sequence. Its cool.

I do surya namaskars daily around sunrise and it feels beautiful

my added faves if i'm not doing a whole session are headstand, handstand, scorpion & i'm working on my backbends & keeping my shoulders rotated correctly so i do asanas for that throughout the day. i end up on the mat throughout the day some days, if i'm anxious or fearful about something, i end up there more.

namaste!

and this site offers nice music:

Hi guys!

I'm feeling better today and I did my salutations this morning. After days off, I felt lazy but forced myself to do it and it felt great to stretch out my back. I noticed that last week my triceps were really sore from lowering myself to the ground but today they were not sore and I had way more control, getting stronger!!

I get excited about yoga but realized that OP may not have wanted a "teacher" on this thread! lol! Always great to see people into yoga

Alright, after reading these posts I'm hoping to get back into my sun salutations routine. When the weather was beautiful, I'd do them every morning facing the sun. It was soo grounding! Now I do yoga with my one yr old (itsy bitsy yoga) which is mostly focused on her. She has her own mat and gets really into it most of the time. She's great at down dog , cobra and many others Thanks for the inspiration!
