I stumbled upon the following article, which is full of mis-information and references that are carefully selected to support a very biased point of view. Really nasty. BUT, read the 17 responses - Wow! After being demolalised by the article, they all offer up a giant ray of sunshine. There is not one word of support for the author.

"A study found" "Study after study have shown" "A recent study" ...

Statistics have been part of my job for most of my adult life. In fact, you could say I've made a "study" of studies. A recent study indicates the possibility that the majority of uncited studies are either partially or wholly fabricated.

Here's how I tell which from which:
* "A recent study found ..." the author can't be bothered to reference the source so the entire existence of any such study is in question.
* "A study performed by [research group] at [research facility] and published in [credible source] found ..." the author actually did some research and has presented us information with which we are able to fact check and make our own determination of the validity of the claim.
