worried ...vitamin C?

I'm about 3 dpo right now and earlier this week I started to come down with a cold. I had just (a few weeks ago) gotten over a respiratory infection so I've been drinking a lot of emergen-c to get better faster ... On "O" I took 2 packs at separate times and the last several days I've been taking one pack a day (1000mg). I was just reading about miscarriage/abortion and vitamin C. I hope I didn't hurt anything if we did conceive this cycle. Any thoughts? Anyone used emergen-c during the 2ww?

I've never looked into this specifically but if you're prior to implantation it shouldn't be an issue anyhow since there's no blood exchange b/w you and the LO-to-be. Vitamin C is water soluble so any extra that you don't use you pee out. So even if you had high doses right before implantation I'd say it should be fine. I'd stop now (you probably already have!) just to make yourself feel better. Fingers crossed this is your month!!

My midwife has me on 1000 mg Vit. C daily and has since I started speaking with her about the pregnancy. 1000mg daily lowers the risk of PROM, so that is a safe and beneficial level. According to my doctor, you want to avoid 3000 or more, this past week when I went to her for a sinus infection she asked how much vitamin C I was taking and suggested I double it until I am better but do NOT triple it. (rather than double it I am just drinking a lot of OJ in addition to my pills)

Only one report has been found that potentially relates high doses of vitamin C with fetal anomalies. This was in a brief 1976 case report describing an anencephalic fetus delivered from a woman treated with high doses of vitamin C and other water-soluble vitamins and nutrients for psychiatric reasons (28). The relationship between the defect and the vitamins is unknown. In another study, no evidence of adverse effects was found with doses up to 2000 mg/day (29).
