Is there a pain reliever (tylenol/motrin/etc) for kids that is dye free and flavor free

Anything like that exist? DS is having his tonsils/adenoids out later this month but will. not. take. meds. I think if it's dye free and flavor free we have a chance. But everything I'm finding is cherry, grape or strawberry flavor. If we have to work with one of those it will result in dp and myself holding ds down, screaming, while we squirt the meds in his mouth and hope he swallows at least a little

it's possible that you could get something compounded at a compounding pharmacy. Then maybe you could hide it in applesauce or something. We do the dye free cherry tylenol but my kids are okay with the flavor.

I just tried to get something like this to have on hand, as my DS is allergic to all the flavors out there.

You can get a liquid form of tylenol or ibuprofen, with a doctor's prescription, at a compounding pharmacy. Regular pharmacies won't do it. The only catch is that the expiration date on that liquid will be very short...like 1-2 weeks. That should work for you in this case, but not if you just want to keep something "on hand".

What I found is some ibuprofen tablets, non-coated, that are dye free. I can take 1/2 of one of those and crush it and hopefully hide it in some food. I'm not sure if my DS will actually eat said food, but at least I have some kind of plan. If he won't take that and should I ever need it, I know I can get a script from the ped and do the short-time liquid.

you can always go the route of suppositories.

I would ask the Doc for a prescription.

Thanks! We found a compounding pharmacy near us so I'll call or go in there in the next couple days and talk to them! It says on their website that they can do some sort of gel stuff that can be rubbed on his skin (wrist, I think). That would be amazing if we could get a pain med like that and an antibiotic (he'll be on a round of antibiotics after the surgery too and there's no way we'll be able to get it in him).

True. He's used those a few times for high fevers, but he definitely doesn't like it.

The dr will write a script for tylenol with codeine, I believe. But wouldn't a pharmacy just fill that with the colored, flavored stuff?

They usually ask you what flavor you want. Make sure the script says no flavor. So they don't do anything before you get there.

I'd take Arnica Montana 200c before and 30c as needed afterward. My friend's mom had a total breast mastectomy and only took Arnica for discomfort, no other pain meds.
