VBAC at Neugarten Birthing Center (Northern Dutchess Hospital)

Hi there!

I'm just wondering if anyone here has had a VBAC at NDH before?

My first was born via c-section on March 18, 2009 after 33 hours of labor and 4 hours of pushing. #2 is due in the beginning of October, and I'm hoping for a VBAC.

One of the midwives told me that the rule is VBAC mamas have to stay on the monitor the whole time I'm really hoping that is not the case...

I'm going to the Womens Care Center - Dr. Dean Bloch, Suzanne Berger C.N.M. and Julie Denney C.N.M.

VBACs have happened there although maybe not with those docs. Dr Bloch is great from what I hear though.

Hire a doula if you'd really like to up your chances for a successful VBAC. Doctors and nurses tend to be fearful of them and a good doula will provide you with the support you need to accomplish what you know you can do.

Thanks! I'm going to look into that. The doula I hired last time was experienced with HVBAC (her own), but she wasn't very familiar with this hospital and some communications issues made it difficult. I'm going to see who else I can find.

I have also heard wonderful things about Dr. Bloch (in regards to VBAC). I have been seeing him since 2007 and I just adore him. He is a doctor whom I can trust 100000%.

my SIL had a VBAC there, with Dr. Bloch.

Mary Riley was my SIL's doula for both her births... she fought for her all the way. I used her too and she's PHENOMENAL. she is very well acquainted with neugarten (and they with her)... I strongly recommend her.

good luck!

Thanks! I was actually thinking about calling Mary Riley. We had a one-on-one childbirth class with her and I felt a real connection.

I think that was the one thing about my birth that just wasn't quite right. The doula I used is awesome, but she's used to working at big hospitals (Vassar and Westchester) and having to be super defensive. It felt like she had her guard up all the time, and I could really feel the tension. It would have been so much easier if she was familiar with NDH. They're sooooo not like Vassar.

If you don't mind my asking, how much was your fee for Mary?

There are tons of area doulas experienced with VBACs that attend births at NDH. Check out www.doulasofthehudsonvalley.com if you want to read little bios on any of the ladies. I know them all personally (and some ever delivered with Dr Bloch themselves and have worked with him since) and they're all wonderful doulas.
