I have a 5yo dd and 2 yo ds (see my sig, lol). They are both nursing. Ds more so than dd, but she nurses at least 3 times/day. Ds nurses 3-5 times/day, plus at least 2x at night. Both of them prefer my left breast. I think it has a stronger supply and better flow. Of course, they cannot both have the same side at the same time, but even with that my right has been producing less and less. There were a few times that Dd has even told me that nothing was coming out of the right side. I haven't tried pumping, bc well, I don't want to
I have tried to help things along, though, by increasing time on the right.
Here's our routine:
*At bedtime, I nurse them both to sleep, ds on left, dd on right. Dd falls asleep pretty quickly, so the right doesn't get much "action".
*When ds wakes up the first time, I nurse him on the left then put him back to bed (it's easier to put him back in his bed if i nurse him on the left).
*When he wakes again, he comes into my bed and I nurse him only from the right breast for the rest of the night.
*In the am, dd nurses on left with ds on right. After dd goes to school ds switches to left until he's "finished".
*Ds may ask to nurse again later, during which I usually offer the right.
*At naptime, he get's the left (again, for ease of transition in to bed).
*When he wakes it's back on the right for anywhere from 30-60 minutes nursing on and off while he sleeps a little bit longer.
*They nurse together again when dd gets home from school, her on the left, him on the right and then usually not again until bedtime.
Can you see anywhere I'm going wrong? Or how I can help the right side "catch up"? At night, before bed, if it's been 4-5 hours since I've last nursed, my left is full and ready and the poor right side looks like someone let the air out. I don't think it's too obvious, unless you're looking for it, which obviously I am. I just don't want to get lopsided or have the right dry up completely.
HELP!!
