Zero eye contact in SPD???

My daughter has many of the symptoms of SPD, though she has not been diagnosed. Still waiting for an evaluation. She is very bright and loves to talk, but she does not look people in the eye. Is this a common SPD trait or could it be something else?

Thanks

Spectrum kids often have eye contact trouble but it could be uncomfortable for other kids in a sensory way. There would be other signs of spectrum stuff of course outside of eye contact and spectrum kids can have great eye contact--it's just not diagnostic at all. Things like nonverbal communication and monitoring the other person's reaction are more indicative of spectrum stuff than eye contact. There could also be visual processing issues. My spectrum son began seeking eye contact after we did vision therapy.

My son, with autism and some (major) sensory needs, is all about eye contact, but he'll stare just right through your face. As Rachelle said, it's just not something you can base a diagnosis on.

Heck, the principal at my son's school didn't make true eye contact with me more than 3 times during our 30 minute meeting this afternoon and it was a good, useful, pleasant meeting.
