How active is your kid?

Basically that. I'm just trying to get a gauge on what is a "normal" activity level for a 1 year old.

DD is, well, VERY active. Lately, we've been getting more and more comments about this. She's the kid that if you set her in a room she finds the exit and all the things that you don't want her to get into immediately. I know that's fairly typically for toddlers but she's just so quick about it. Much more than what I notice in her friends. I realize some of this might be due in part to her advanced gross motor skills (or it at least shows up more?) but I don't think that's everything.

She's never been one to be over tired either and actually she sleeps the best if we we just run her down. Her best days are if we get to the playground both in the mornings and afternoons for AT LEAST 1 hour each but 2 hours is better. Those are the days she sleeps through the night and doesn't fight naps. She's always been a poor sleeper and just doesn't seem to need to sleep as much as other kids her age.

I guess, I'm just wondering if there is anything here I need to worry about. My FIL is bipolar and I'm pretty sure has SPD too so I guess this just makes me sensitive to these thing. He gets into these frenzy where he can't be calmed down and is WAY overactive. I try not to worry about such things but we keep getting comments and, honestly, sometimes her high energy level are really overwhelming to deal with (like when I set her down for a second to get her carrier ready to put her in and she's already across the store and has knocked everything off the shelves in the process!!!).

Ds is VERY active. He does not sit still most of the day. If we don't get out of the house during the day for at least a little bit I find he doesn't sleep very well. He's definitely more active than a lot of the others I know that are the same age.

My DD is not super active compared to what you are describing and compared to many kids her age (13 months) we meet at the parks and drop-in.
Her best bud is only three days older than she is, but he is super active, much like you describe your daughter.
I think they'll (mostly) all level out, but will always have their particular gifts. My little one is very observant, her best bud is very skilled spatially.
My little one is quite verbal, her best bud is very physically intuitive.
From the sounds of it, your little one sounds like a mover and a shaker!

DD was always the most high energy, loudest kid in the room (one friend was wide-eyed as DD tore around her house, commenting, She's like a steam roller!), until one day she suddenly mellowed out. Now she has great energy, but not crazy energy like she used to. She is easy to take to the grocery store now (used to totally stress me out). Recently we were playing with a friend whose daughter is the same age, and was one of the many "mellow" babies that I used to be in awe of. Her daughter was running around like crazy (not in a bad way, just in a toddler way) and commented that my daughter was so mellow. *insert jaw on floor here* I never thought anyone would call my daughter mellow! I'd just go with it the way you are: give her lots of opportunity to be active in places where you won't be tempted to try to ask her to be someone she is not, and she is going to be just fine. And fwiw, I think high energy is a very good trait!
