Another sleep position question

Is it unsafe to turn your back to baby? DS has the unfortunate habit of wanting to nurse ALL. THE. TIME. if there's a breast anywhere near his face. Plus I get really, really uncomfortable, to the point where I can't sleep, if I lay on one side for more than an hour. Usually after an hour I either have to get up and try to put him back in his crib (which only works 50% of the time) or lay awake staring at the ceiling. So would it be unsafe to roll over and let him sleep against my back?

As long as your lo is safe on the other side of ie: cannot roll out of bed or get stuck between furniture etc, I would say go ahead and get comfortable. DD is an all night nurser and I use every opportunity I get to lay on my belly and really sleep. I usually feel better facing her way but I have so many nights as you describe...staring at the ceiling too uncomfortable to sleep that I get in a good position whenever possible. Do whatever gets you the best sleep as long as your lo is safe.

I agree! I get uncomfortable on one side for too long, so I switch to my other side, stomach, whatever is comfortable. The little guy is safe as long as he cant roll off the bed, get covered by pillows etc.

Um, personally, I never do it because I would be more likely to roll over on him that way. When you're on your side facing him, you know he's there, but when he's behind you, you're more likely to forget about him in your sleep and roll onto him. Plus, I don't know about you, but I almost never roll from side to stomach in general. But I regularly roll from side to back. So I guess you should figure out for yourself how you typically sleep.

If he's a distance away from you, such that you could roll from your side to your back without touching him, that might be ok.

I'm used to sleeping wedged in between 3 or 4 cats and DH on a queen bed, so I pretty much roll in place most of the time. There's no rolling very far when your legs are mostly pinned in place. I'm trying to figure out how/when we can get a king sized mattress which would free up a lot of bed space...
