What are the most absorbent inserts?

My son is 19mo. and drinks alot of fluids and FLOODS his diapers. We're talking changing every hour, if not then he's soaked through his clothes. I need to find some more absorbent inserts for his pocket dipes. A friend lent me some hemp inserts but they aren't cutting it either. Any suggestions? I can't keep up with all this laundry and changing and I don't want to have to switch to disposibles!

For microfiber inserts, I've had great luck with the CottonBabies inserts (the snappable ones that come with Bum Genius 3.0 pockets). For hemp (which will absorb MORE, but not as quickly as microfiber), I like the Wonderfulls, which are 2 pieces that snap together. For overnight, which was our biggest challenge, I finally went with a combo of microfiber and hemp, and that worked well for us.

New hemp inserts have to be primed with several washes with soap in order to achieve full absorbency.

Older inserts of any kind can become less absorbent over time if the soap you are using leaves residue, or if you use diaper rash creams, or fabric softener, etc.

Like eliotsmommy said, a combo of microfiber and hemp works well for many. The microfiber absorbs quickly, the hemp absorbs a lot, but more slowly. if you have the mf closer to the skin, with the hemp under it, that might help. I actually prefer cotton's absorption to microfiber though. You could try a trifolded prefold with a hemp doubler under it as your insert for your pocket dipes, just make sure the cotton is closer to your ds.
Wool covers are awesome for heavy wetters as well.

Good luck!!
